Items to sell on Ebay – Macklemore Thrift Shop Coat & Ugly Sweaters

One of the more common questions that I get asked when I tell people that I sell things online, is what do you sell? The answer to this question is basically anything that I can sell for more than I paid for it.  I will go into more details on what I look for in terms of margin and other details in future posts, but for now I will show you a couple of items that I sold in the past month that have been good for me and could have been found at basically any thrift store.

Example of Items to Sell on Ebay

The first is a faux fur coat.  This may not be worth too much by itself, but the timing of the sale was a couple of weeks before Halloween.  I listed this coat as a Macklemore “Thrift Shop” Halloween Costume Coat, as it reminded me of the one that he wore in the music video to this popular song.  If you haven’t seen it before, here is a link: Thrift Shop

This coat is not an exact match, but it is similar, and given the timing someone paid handsomely for it to likely use it for a Halloween Costume.  I started this item as an auction for $74.99 with free shipping and as you can see it went for $112.50.  I purchased this item for $6, and after the cost of the item, shipping and ebay fees I ended up with a profit of $75.96.

The second item that I will show you today is an ugly sweater that I sold for $32.  Ugly sweaters can be an easy way to make money on ebay.  People are having ugly sweater parties; there are ugly sweater runs, and probably other reasons that people are purchasing ugly sweaters on ebay.  Either way, they are a decent seller and pretty easy to make money off of.  I started this item off as an auction with a starting price of $19.99 and free shipping.  It was bid up to $32.  I purchased this item for $3.99, and after shipping and ebay fees I made a profit of $16.41.

These are just 2 quick examples of items that sell well on ebay.  It is important to remember the events and holidays that are approaching when looking for items on ebay.  In the case of these items Halloween and Ugly Sweater Events were quickly approaching so the timing was right to cash in on these items.

Keep  these things in mind when looking for items to sell! If you have any questions, please post them in the comments.
