If you decide that you want to start selling on Amazon, one of the first and biggest decisions that you’ll have to make is how you will get products to sell.

There are several different strategies that people use to do this, and each strategy has its own pros and cons.

The three that you will hear people talking about the most are arbitrage, wholesale, and private labeling.

You’ll see all three positioned as beginner friendly – but if you’ve read about my Stairway to Seven Figures model, you already know that it doesn’t make sense to dive into private labeling if you don’t have any experience.

While wholesaling products and developing your own brand offer a higher potential income, your odds of actually realizing that higher income aren’t very good if you don’t have experience and money to invest – no matter how much people try to convince you otherwise.

This is where the Stairway model comes into play.

You start at the base with strategies like flipping and retail arbitrage (RA). These allow you to start making money while also gaining extremely valuable experience, which you then leverage to be successful with the more complicated, expensive, and risky strategies.

Here are some specific reasons I believe retail arbitrage (buying products from local retail stores and then reselling them online) is the smartest way to get started on Amazon:

  2. Your initial investment is extremely low.
  3. You’ll work with many products and gain experience in a wide range of categories.
  4. A bad purchase might mean losing $20, whereas a bad purchase with other strategies means losing hundreds to thousands.

Keep in mind, you can still make a lot with retail arbitrage. My business does millions of dollars in sales from RA-sourced products each year.

But does retail arbitrage actually work in 2019?

Of all the questions that people ask me, the most common is along the lines of
